Description (résumé)
An investigation into Animal Diseases in the Okavango Delta. Research at the interface between wildlife in National Parks and livestock farming areas is of high relevance as regards to the evolution of Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA) in which wildlife will be able to move freely between countries over more extensive areas with a high likelihood for wildlife – livestock interactions, and pathogens from distinct ecological habitats invading new territories and animal populations. FAO ECTAD, in collaboration with CIRAD, carried out a study at the interface between the Ngamiland cattle ranching area and the Okavango Delta. After blood samples were taken from 500 cattle in Ngamiland, 90 buffalo were captured in the Delta (another 90 in the Chobe National Park). This film shows what it takes to get the precious blood and other samples from wild, free ranging buffaloes in the beautiful setting of the Okavango Delta!
