Elle montre comment ce travail initial, mené au cours des années 1950 dans des conditions parfois rocambolesques, a nourri la suite de son parcours d’historienne, dans les différents domaines où elle a exercé son influence (histoire culturelle, histoire des femmes, relations interculturelles…).
