Exercice dont le pair du Royaume britannique se sort avec brio, en faisant la promotion des méthodes de travail sur le terrain, de son confrère : « Malinowski a vécu là comme un indigène parmi les indigènes pendant plusieurs mois d’affilée ; jour après jour, il les a regardés travailler et jouer, conversant avec eux dans leur propre langue et tirant ses informations des sources les plus sûres qu’il soit- l’observation personnelle et les déclarations faites directement à lui par les aborigènes, dans leur dialecte, sans qu’intervienne un interprète ».
