Quelques pays font exception, parmi lesquels nous pouvons compter l’Australie et le Canada. Le premier concentre ses habitants le long du littoral, et sa faible densité démographique est attribuable à l’immensité des terres arides intérieures. La population du Canada est répartie surtout le long de sa frontière sud, proche des Etats-Unis, car les conditions climatiques du nord et la distance aux marchés économiques ne sont pas propices au développement urbain. Dans cette partie, deux aspects de la démographie seront traités. Le premier est la répartition de la population à travers les provinces et territoires, ainsi que leur composition par tranche d’âges. Le deuxième décrit la contribution aux dynamiques par les différentes composantes que sont les naissances/décès, immigrations/émigrations, et enfin les migrations interprovinciales.
