Cependant, toutes les nations sont faites d’immigrants. Ceci est très clairement le cas des « jeunes » pays comme le Canada et l’Australie, mais toutes les régions de la planète, y compris la vieille Europe, ont fait l’objet de guerres, d’invasions, de conquêtes, et de métissages depuis le début des temps. A l’échelle millénaire, l’immigration et le mouvement des peuples est la norme et non pas un phénomène moderne qui met en danger les sociétés. Ayant dit cela, la modernité des transports et l’ouverture des frontières nationales ont introduit des possibilités de flux humains jamais connu auparavant. Et ceci a engendré des changements dans les origines des immigrants. Après une brève présentation des flux historiques d’immigrants, la répartition des immigrants en fonction de leurs origines ethniques sera présentée à travers une série de cartes interactives et de graphiques.
