Certains oiseaux se reproduisent le long de la rivière (en berge concave dans des nids creusés sur le talus abrupt, en berge convexe par dépôt des œufs sur les graviers ; par des nids en coupe dans les zones arbustives. La plus grande richesse en oiseaux se trouve dans les forêts, où les habitats sont les plus nombreux (notamment en fonction des strates et du degré de sénescence des troncs) et aussi parce que ces forêts bordent la rivière, où certaines espèces d’oiseaux chassent les insectes. Parmi les mammifères, les deux espèces phares sont le castor, réintroduit avec succès dans les années 1980, et la loutre, qui pourrait bientôt réapparaitre en raison de la qualité des habitats. La forêt abrite aussi des cortèges d’amphibiens, dont les densités et la richesse varient en fonction de la distance à la rivière et le degré de connexion au lit mineur. Dans la rivière, la faune piscicole est abondante et riche en espèces. La rivière et ses bras forment un milieu d’exception pour le brochet. Toutefois, la moitié des espèces est d’origine anthropique, car constituée d’individus introduits pour la pêche.
