What type of search may I use ?

Simple search

It operates on some document-related data. For example : title ; abstract ; keywords ; etc.
To make the best use of the simple search, see below the section "How to perform my simple or advanced search ?".

Advanced search

It allows a finer search by exploiting different criteria or their combination.
To make the best use of the simple search, see below the section "How to perform my simple or advanced search ?".

Thematic search

It allows a search using a pre-defined criteria (keyword, theme, institution, etc.).

Search by date

It allows to access to most recently published resources.

Faceted search

Located on the left side of the page (when displayed), facets allow the search refinement using criteria from the current results.

Tag clouds

Located on the right side of the page (when displayed), tag clouds enable to broaden the search to all resources correponding to criteria from the current results.

RSS feed

An RSS feed can be associated to any search. By subscribing, the user could be informed of any new item corresponding to a specific search.

How to perform my simple or advanced search ?

The simple search allows to enter one or more terms. A space between two words equals OR.
Example : fluid mechanics searches documents associated only with fluid, those associated only with mechanics, and those associated with both terms (in this last case, the documents are displayed on the top of the results list).

Other combinations are possible :

  • AND
Example : Russian AND literature searches only documents associated with both terms.
  • NOT
Example : psychology NOT child searches documents associated with psychology, but not with child.

Others ways to perform your search :

  • quotation marks allow to find a complete expression ;
"chemistry of materials", for example, searches all the documents associated with this expression.
  • replacement of a unique character is possible with ? (question mark), except at the start of a word.
Plurals are automatically managed (example : fluid searches documents associated with fluid or à fluids).

I find too much results, how do I refine my search ?

In some cases, the results can be refined using the facets available on the left of the page.

In the case of a simple or advanced search, the initial request can be modified with the "Modify" link.

I find no result, how do I modify my search ?

You can use, in the simple search :

  • a synonym or a more generic term than the one initially chosen.
Once on the results page, you could use the facets or the "Modify" link. A new search will be performed with your new criteria.
  • the truncation operator : * . The asterisk allows to enlarge the search to neighbouring terms.
Example : mecha* searches for documents associated with terms beginning with mecha (mechanics, mechanism, mechatronics, ...).
Attention : the truncation operator can not be used alone, at the start of a word or in the form "a*" or "fl*".
