Description (résumé)

Cette séance accueille Catherine BERNARD, autour de la thématique "Transcultural Spaces in videos from North African and the Middle East". Discutante : Seloua LUSTE BOULBINA. Transcultural Spaces; Videos from North Africa and the Middle East” investigates the films of Lamia Joreige, Zineb Sedira, Mohamed Bourouissa,Yto Barrada, Mounir Fatmi, and others artists who navigate the interstitial spaces that have been created through the entangled histories of the African continent and Europe. Their films resist the use of binary opposites to analyze the historical process by proposing alternatives and configurations that reflect on power relations, exploitation, hierarchies, in- and exclusion processes. They describe the experience of transition for generations of migrants; discuss the transgression of imposed social and political rules; contend with the hybridization process at work in new socio cultural spaces and acknowledge the composite character of post migrant life. As these artists examine a diversity of scenarios generated by these (dis)junctions, they establish transcultural experience as a critical new paradigm.
