This video is part of a series of 19 videos for technical gestures in chemistry (with French subtitles). In this video, we will show you how to perform thin layer chromatography also called TLC by chemists. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) is a separation method which allows the identification of the products to be analyzed by comparison with pure reference products. The principle is based on the differences in affinity of compounds during migration by capillarity with the stationary phase and the mobile phase. A TLC is generally done for monitoring the progress of a reaction or for the separation of a product during purification by a chromatographic column.
